Perched on the edge of a cliff, the abandoned city of TULUM, towers above the deep turquoise of the Caribbean and its beautiful, white, sandy beach. The only site overlooking the Caribbean, the city within the walls was inhabited only by the nobility, high priests, and the upper class. You will understand why, when you experience the beauty of this site.

Originally called "Zama" or "City of the Dawn", the sun rises from the sea above the walls of the city, and for the ancient Maya, began its dance across the sky. A guided visit of the site takes about 45 minutes, and then there is leisure time to take pictures or simply enjoy the picturesque views.

Then continue to XEL-HA, a large area of protected inlets and lagoons, which form a natural aquarium, ideal for snorkelling and exploring the bay freely as you plunge into the beauty of the ecological reserve. Home to many varieties of colorful, tropical fish, visitors can learn to snorkel and enjoy, first hand, the beautiful underwater world of marine life.

There is a multitude of activities to choose from: visit the tree nursury, immerse yourself in one of the natural cenotes, experience the mystical Mayan cave, admire and feed the tropical fish as you cross the floating bridge of the inlet, visit the apiary which is home to the 'melipona' or stingless bee, and the list goes on. Some choose to simply sit in one of the beach chairs and soak up the sun or visit Hammock Island and spend some quiet time swinging in the warm Caribbean breeze.

XEL-HA is only 15 minutes north of TULUM, so the location is ideal for a combined day trip to the ruins. Snorkeling equipment, food, buffet or al la carte at any of the five restaurants and snack bars, ice cream at both ice cream shops, and beverages including domestic beer and alcohol, are included at Xel-Ha.
